The Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is a unique 10-digit identification number issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to businesses engaged in importing or exporting goods and services from India. While the IEC has lifetime validity, DGFT mandates that all IEC holders must electronically update or confirm their business details every year between April 1 and June 30.

This annual compliance requirement was introduced through DGFT Notification No. 58/2015-2020 dated February 12, 2021.
